Revelation 第 17
KJV — King James Version · 18 節
And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters:
Spiritual Insight
The angel offers to show the judgment of the great prostitute sitting on many waters—a scene of corruption about to be exposed. What is hidden will be revealed. God's judgment is also His honesty.
With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.
Spiritual Insight
Kings and inhabitants drunk on her wine—intoxicated by compromise and corruption. Sin has a way of making us lose our clarity. Stay sober in spirit; don't let the world's wine cloud your judgment.
So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.
Spiritual Insight
A woman on a scarlet beast in the wilderness—extravagance and blasphemy combined. The wilderness, normally a place of testing, becomes the stage for this spectacle. Even in desolate places, spiritual realities are at work.
And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:
Spiritual Insight
Purple, scarlet, gold, precious stones—a golden cup full of abominations. Outward beauty masking inner corruption is the oldest trick. Don't be mesmerized by appearances; look at what's in the cup.
And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
Spiritual Insight
MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, MOTHER OF HARLOTS—her identity is written on her forehead. Sin tries to hide, but God makes it visible. What's done in darkness will eventually come to light.
And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.
Spiritual Insight
The woman drunk on the blood of saints and martyrs—John marvels with great astonishment. Even a prophet is shocked by the depth of evil. Don't become numb to injustice; let it grieve you as it grieves God.
And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.
Spiritual Insight
The angel asks: Why are you astonished? I will explain the mystery. God is always willing to reveal understanding to those who ask. When you're confused, turn to Him for clarity.
The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.
Spiritual Insight
The beast that was, is not, and yet is—rising from the abyss to destruction. This paradoxical evil fascinates those without the book of life. Don't be drawn to what is mysterious; be drawn to what is true.
And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.
Spiritual Insight
Seven heads are seven mountains—wisdom is needed to interpret the vision. God doesn't hide truth from us; He invites us to seek it. Ask for wisdom; He gives generously.
And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space.
Spiritual Insight
Five kings fallen, one is, one yet to come—history unfolding according to God's timeline. Empires rise and fall, but God's throne remains. Find your security in what never changes.
And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.
Spiritual Insight
The beast is the eighth king, of the seven, heading to destruction—even the most complex evil has an endpoint. No matter how tangled the opposition, God's victory is certain.
And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.
Spiritual Insight
Ten kings with no kingdom yet, receiving power for one hour with the beast. Even temporary power is under God's sovereign hand. Don't be intimidated by authority that's here today and gone tomorrow.
These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.
Spiritual Insight
These kings have one purpose: to give their power to the beast. Unity in the wrong cause is still unity against God. Not every alliance is holy; check whom you're aligning with.
These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.
Spiritual Insight
They make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb overcomes them! He is Lord of lords and King of kings. Those with Him are called, chosen, and faithful. You're on the winning side—never forget that.
And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.
Spiritual Insight
The waters are peoples, multitudes, nations, tongues—the prostitute's influence is vast and global. Spiritual corruption operates on a massive scale. Be aware of the systems that shape your thinking.
And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.
Spiritual Insight
The ten horns will hate the prostitute and destroy her—evil turns on itself. The very alliances that empower wickedness will eventually become its undoing. God uses even the wicked to accomplish His purposes.
For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.
Spiritual Insight
God puts it in their hearts to fulfill His will—even their rebellion serves His purpose. This is the mystery of sovereignty: nothing escapes God's plan. Rest in that truth when the world seems chaotic.
And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.
Spiritual Insight
The woman is that great city ruling over earth's kings—systems of power and corruption identified and exposed. God names what needs to be named. Truth-telling is the first step toward freedom.
