Proverbs 第 30
KJV — King James Version · 33 節
The words of Agur the son of Jakeh, even the prophecy: the man spake unto Ithiel, even unto Ithiel and Ucal,
Spiritual Insight
These are the words of Agur — an honest confession that wisdom begins with humility. Admitting what you don't know opens the door to genuine understanding.
Surely I am more brutish than any man, and have not the understanding of a man.
Spiritual Insight
I am the most ignorant of people; I do not have human understanding. Honesty about your limitations isn't weakness — it's the beginning of wisdom.
I neither learned wisdom, nor have the knowledge of the holy.
Spiritual Insight
I have not learned wisdom, nor do I have knowledge of the Holy One. The greatest minds acknowledge how much they still have to learn about God.
Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son’s name, if thou canst tell?
Spiritual Insight
Who has gone up to heaven and come down? Who has gathered the wind? Who has wrapped the waters? What is His name and His son's name? The mysteries of God invite awe, not arrogance.
Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.
Spiritual Insight
Every word of God is flawless; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him. Scripture is both perfect truth and practical protection.
Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.
Spiritual Insight
Do not add to His words, or He will rebuke you and prove you a liar. Humility before God's truth means resisting the urge to improve on what's already perfect.
Two things have I required of thee; deny me them not before I die:
Spiritual Insight
Two things I ask of you — do not refuse me before I die. A prayer of simplicity from someone who knows what truly matters.
Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me:
Spiritual Insight
Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but my daily bread. The sweet spot of contentment lies between too little and too much.
Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.
Spiritual Insight
Otherwise I may have too much and disown you, or become poor and steal and profane your name. Both extremes carry spiritual dangers — contentment protects the soul.
Accuse not a servant unto his master, lest he curse thee, and thou be found guilty.
Spiritual Insight
Don't slander a servant to their master, or they'll curse you and you'll pay the penalty. Words against someone's livelihood carry consequences you didn't anticipate.
There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother.
Spiritual Insight
There are those who curse their parents and don't bless them. Disrespect for those who gave you life reveals a deep brokenness.
There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness.
Spiritual Insight
There are those who are pure in their own eyes and yet are not washed of their filth. Self-deception about our own cleanliness is perhaps the most dangerous blindness.
There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up.
Spiritual Insight
There are those — how lofty are their eyes, how high their eyelids are raised! Pride announces itself before a single word is spoken.
There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.
Spiritual Insight
There are those whose teeth are swords, whose jaws are set with knives to devour the poor from the earth. Cruelty to the vulnerable is among the gravest of sins.
The horseleach hath two daughters, crying, Give, give. There are three things that are never satisfied, yea, four things say not, It is enough:
Spiritual Insight
The leech has two daughters: 'Give! Give!' Three things are never satisfied, four that never say 'Enough!' Greed is a creature with an endless appetite.
The grave; and the barren womb; the earth that is not filled with water; and the fire that saith not, It is enough.
Spiritual Insight
The grave, the barren womb, the land that is never satisfied with water, and the fire that never says 'Enough!' Some things in creation mirror the insatiable nature of desire.
The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.
Spiritual Insight
The eye that mocks a father and despises instruction will be pecked out by the ravens. Contempt for parental authority carries consequences as grim as they are certain.
There be three things which are too wonderful for me, yea, four which I know not:
Spiritual Insight
Three things are too amazing for me, four that I don't understand. Wonder and mystery still have a place in the wisest of minds.
The way of an eagle in the air; the way of a serpent upon a rock; the way of a ship in the midst of the sea; and the way of a man with a maid.
Spiritual Insight
The way of an eagle in the sky, the way of a snake on a rock, the way of a ship on the sea, and the way of a man with a young woman. Some things carry a beauty and mystery that defy explanation.
Such is the way of an adulterous woman; she eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I have done no wickedness.
Spiritual Insight
This is the way of an adulteress: she eats and wipes her mouth and says 'I've done nothing wrong.' Some sins numb the conscience so completely that guilt disappears entirely.
For three things the earth is disquieted, and for four which it cannot bear:
Spiritual Insight
Under three things the earth trembles, under four it cannot bear up. There are some situations so upside-down that creation itself recoils.
For a servant when he reigneth; and a fool when he is filled with meat;
Spiritual Insight
A servant who becomes king, a fool who is full of food, an unloved woman who is married, and a servant who displaces her mistress. Power without preparation is a recipe for disaster.
For an odious woman when she is married; and an handmaid that is heir to her mistress.
Spiritual Insight
An unloved woman who is married and a servant who displaces her mistress — when roles reverse without readiness, everyone suffers.
There be four things which are little upon the earth, but they are exceeding wise:
Spiritual Insight
Four things on earth are small, yet they are extremely wise. Size and significance don't always correlate — the smallest creatures often carry the deepest lessons.
The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer;
Spiritual Insight
Ants are creatures of little strength, yet they store up their food in summer. Preparation is wisdom in its most practical form.
The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks;
Spiritual Insight
Hyraxes are weak, yet they make their home in the crags. Even the vulnerable find security when they choose their refuge wisely.
The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands;
Spiritual Insight
Locusts have no king, yet they advance in ranks. Cooperation and shared purpose can accomplish more than individual power.
The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings’ palaces.
Spiritual Insight
A lizard can be caught with the hand, yet it's found in kings' palaces. Persistence and adaptability open doors that strength alone cannot.
There be three things which go well, yea, four are comely in going:
Spiritual Insight
Three things are stately in their stride, four that move with grace. There's something about confident movement that commands respect.
A lion which is strongest among beasts, and turneth not away for any;
Spiritual Insight
The lion, mighty among beasts, doesn't retreat before any. True courage isn't the absence of fear — it's refusing to back down.
A greyhound; an he goat also; and a king, against whom there is no rising up.
Spiritual Insight
The strutting rooster, the he-goat, and a king with his army around him. Confidence born from rightful authority carries a presence that demands attention.
If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast thought evil, lay thine hand upon thy mouth.
Spiritual Insight
If you've played the fool by exalting yourself or plotting evil, put your hand over your mouth. Sometimes the best wisdom is simply to stop talking.
Surely the churning of milk bringeth forth butter, and the wringing of the nose bringeth forth blood: so the forcing of wrath bringeth forth strife.
Spiritual Insight
As churning cream produces butter and twisting a nose produces blood, so stirring up anger produces conflict. Actions have natural consequences — stirring strife guarantees a fight.
