Mark 第 14

KJV — King James Version · 72

1

After two days was the feast of the passover, and of unleavened bread: and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft, and put him to death.

Spiritual Insight

Two days before Passover, the religious leaders were plotting Jesus' death in secret. While they schemed in darkness, Jesus was preparing for the greatest act of love in history.

2

But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar of the people.

Spiritual Insight

Not during the feast, they said, fearing a riot. Even in their evil plans, they were cautious about public opinion. Human calculations can delay God's purposes, but never defeat them.

3

And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head.

Spiritual Insight

A woman came with an alabaster jar of extremely expensive perfume and broke it over Jesus' head. She didn't measure out a portion — she poured out everything. Extravagant love holds nothing back.

4

And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made?

Spiritual Insight

Some were indignant: Why this waste? What the world calls waste, God calls worship. Generosity always looks extravagant to those who are calculating.

5

For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her.

Spiritual Insight

It could have been sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor. Practical concerns can mask deeper heart issues — sometimes our «reasonable» objections are just excuses to avoid sacrificial love.

6

And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me.

Spiritual Insight

Leave her alone, Jesus said. She has done a beautiful thing for Me. Jesus defended this woman's act of devotion against the criticism of the crowd. He still defends those who love Him extravagantly.

7

For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always.

Spiritual Insight

The poor you will always have with you, but you won't always have Me. There's a time for practical ministry and a time for simply being present with Jesus. Both matter.

8

She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying.

Spiritual Insight

She did what she could — she anointed My body beforehand for burial. This woman didn't fully understand what she was doing, but her love was prophetic. Sometimes devotion outpaces our understanding.

9

Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.

Spiritual Insight

Wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told. Her quiet act of love became part of the eternal story. What we do in devotion to Jesus echoes far beyond our lifetime.

10

And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went unto the chief priests, to betray him unto them.

Spiritual Insight

Judas Iscariot went to the chief priests to betray Jesus. In the same room where extravagant love was poured out, betrayal was being conceived. The human heart is capable of both extremes.

11

And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. And he sought how he might conveniently betray him.

Spiritual Insight

They were glad and promised him money. The price of betrayal was set — thirty pieces of silver for the Son of God. How easily we trade what's priceless for what's convenient.

12

And the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the passover, his disciples said unto him, Where wilt thou that we go and prepare that thou mayest eat the passover?

Spiritual Insight

The disciples asked where to prepare the Passover meal. Even in the shadow of betrayal, life's sacred rhythms continued. The Passover was about to take on a whole new meaning.

13

And he sendeth forth two of his disciples, and saith unto them, Go ye into the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water: follow him.

Spiritual Insight

Go into the city and you'll meet a man carrying a jar of water — follow him. God's instructions can be surprisingly specific. He arranges details we couldn't imagine.

14

And wheresoever he shall go in, say ye to the goodman of the house, The Master saith, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?

Spiritual Insight

Say to the owner, The Teacher asks: Where is my guest room? Even in Jerusalem, Jesus had a place prepared. God always makes room for what matters most.

15

And he will shew you a large upper room furnished and prepared: there make ready for us.

Spiritual Insight

He will show you a large upper room, furnished and ready. The provision was already there, waiting. When God gives instructions, He's already gone ahead to prepare the way.

16

And his disciples went forth, and came into the city, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.

Spiritual Insight

The disciples found everything just as Jesus had told them. Once again, His word proved reliable. You can trust every promise He makes.

17

And in the evening he cometh with the twelve.

Spiritual Insight

That evening, Jesus arrived with the Twelve. The intimacy of sharing a meal with the one who knows everything — including the betrayal that's coming. Yet He still broke bread with them.

18

And as they sat and did eat, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of you which eateth with me shall betray me.

Spiritual Insight

One of you will betray Me — someone eating with Me. The shock must have been devastating. Betrayal from within the inner circle hurts the deepest.

19

And they began to be sorrowful, and to say unto him one by one, Is it I? and another said, Is it I?

Spiritual Insight

One by one they asked, Is it I? Each disciple suspected himself before pointing at someone else. There's a healthy humility in recognizing our own capacity for failure.

20

And he answered and said unto them, It is one of the twelve, that dippeth with me in the dish.

Spiritual Insight

It's one of the twelve — the one who dips bread into the bowl with Me. The betrayer was close enough to share the same dish. Proximity to Jesus doesn't guarantee loyalty to Jesus.

21

The Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had never been born.

Spiritual Insight

The Son of Man will go as written, but woe to the one who betrays Him — it would be better not to have been born. God's plan and human responsibility coexist. The betrayal was foretold but still freely chosen.

22

And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body.

Spiritual Insight

Jesus took bread, gave thanks, broke it, and said, This is My body. In the middle of betrayal and death, He gave them a gift of remembrance. Every communion is a love letter from Jesus.

23

And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them: and they all drank of it.

Spiritual Insight

He took the cup, gave thanks, and they all drank from it. The cup was shared — not individual, but communal. Faith is personal but never private; we drink together.

24

And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many.

Spiritual Insight

This is My blood of the covenant, poured out for many. A new covenant sealed not with animal blood but with the blood of God's own Son. The old system of sacrifice was about to be fulfilled forever.

25

Verily I say unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God.

Spiritual Insight

I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God. Jesus looked past the cross to the celebration ahead. Suffering is temporary; the feast is eternal.

26

And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.

Spiritual Insight

They sang a hymn and went out to the Mount of Olives. Even facing death, Jesus sang. Worship doesn't remove the trial, but it gives us strength to walk through it.

27

And Jesus saith unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered.

Spiritual Insight

You will all fall away. Jesus quoted Zechariah — the shepherd will be struck and the sheep scattered. He didn't sugarcoat what was coming. But He already knew how the story would end.

28

But after that I am risen, I will go before you into Galilee.

Spiritual Insight

But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee. In the same breath as predicting failure, Jesus promised restoration. He always speaks hope into our worst moments.

29

But Peter said unto him, Although all shall be offended, yet will not I.

Spiritual Insight

Peter declared, Even if all fall away, I never will. Confidence isn't the same as strength. The bravest words often come from the most fragile hearts.

30

And Jesus saith unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this day, even in this night, before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice.

Spiritual Insight

Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times. Jesus knew Peter better than Peter knew himself. But Jesus also knew what Peter would become after the failure.

31

But he spake the more vehemently, If I should die with thee, I will not deny thee in any wise. Likewise also said they all.

Spiritual Insight

Peter insisted emphatically, Even if I must die with You, I will never deny You. And all the others said the same. Sincerity and self-deception can coexist. Our intentions can be genuine and still fall short.

32

And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray.

Spiritual Insight

They came to a place called Gethsemane — the olive press. How fitting that Jesus would be pressed like an olive in this garden, the oil of His agony preparing to heal the world.

33

And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy;

Spiritual Insight

He took Peter, James, and John and began to be deeply distressed and troubled. Jesus didn't hide His anguish. Even the Son of God needed friends nearby in His darkest hour.

34

And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch.

Spiritual Insight

My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch. Jesus was honest about His pain and asked for companionship in it. Sometimes the most sacred request is just: stay with me.

35

And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.

Spiritual Insight

He fell to the ground and prayed that if possible, the hour might pass from Him. Jesus didn't want to suffer — and He was honest about that. Prayer isn't pretending to be brave; it's being real with God.

36

And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.

Spiritual Insight

Abba, Father, everything is possible for You. Take this cup from Me. Yet not what I will, but what You will. The most honest prayer: please remove this, but I trust You either way. That's real faith.

37

And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour?

Spiritual Insight

He found them sleeping. Simon, are you asleep? Could you not keep watch for one hour? Jesus' disappointment is palpable. He had asked for so little — just one hour of companionship.

38

Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.

Spiritual Insight

Watch and pray so you won't enter into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. Jesus understood our struggle — our hearts want to be faithful, but our bodies betray us. That's why we need prayer.

39

And again he went away, and prayed, and spake the same words.

Spiritual Insight

He went away again and prayed the same words. Jesus repeated His prayer — not because God wasn't listening, but because the agony was that deep. Persistent prayer is never wasted.

40

And when he returned, he found them asleep again, (for their eyes were heavy,) neither wist they what to answer him.

Spiritual Insight

He returned and found them asleep again — their eyes were heavy. They didn't know what to say to Him. Exhaustion and guilt make a terrible combination. Sometimes we fail those we love most.

41

And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

Spiritual Insight

Enough. The hour has come. The Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. Jesus didn't fight the darkness — He walked into it with open eyes. Sometimes the bravest thing is to accept what cannot be avoided.

42

Rise up, let us go; lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand.

Spiritual Insight

Rise, let us go. My betrayer is at hand. Jesus moved toward the trial rather than away from it. There's a courage that comes from knowing the Father's will — it doesn't remove fear, but it gives you feet to walk through it.

43

And immediately, while he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.

Spiritual Insight

While He was still speaking, Judas arrived with a crowd armed with swords and clubs. The betrayal came right in the middle of Jesus' preparation. Darkness rarely waits for a convenient time.

44

And he that betrayed him had given them a token, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him, and lead him away safely.

Spiritual Insight

The betrayer had given them a signal: The one I kiss is the man. A kiss — the most intimate gesture of friendship — weaponized for betrayal. The cruelest betrayals always wear a familiar face.

45

And as soon as he was come, he goeth straightway to him, and saith, Master, master; and kissed him.

Spiritual Insight

Judas went straight to Jesus, said Rabbi, and kissed Him. Not a hesitant peck — a deliberate act. Sin hardens the heart until even sacred gestures become tools of destruction.

46

And they laid their hands on him, and took him.

Spiritual Insight

They seized Him and took Him away. Just like that — the Creator of the universe, arrested. But He went willingly. No one took His life; He laid it down.

47

And one of them that stood by drew a sword, and smote a servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.

Spiritual Insight

One bystander drew a sword and cut off the ear of the high priest's servant. Violence in defense of Jesus — but that wasn't Jesus' way. His kingdom advances through sacrifice, not swords.

48

And Jesus answered and said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and with staves to take me?

Spiritual Insight

Am I leading a rebellion, that you come with swords and clubs? Jesus challenged their methods. He had been teaching openly every day — they could have arrested Him anytime. But they chose the coward's way.

49

I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but the scriptures must be fulfilled.

Spiritual Insight

Every day I was with you in the temple courts, and you didn't arrest Me. But the Scriptures must be fulfilled. Jesus saw even His arrest through the lens of God's plan. Nothing was out of control.

50

And they all forsook him, and fled.

Spiritual Insight

Everyone deserted Him and fled. The same men who swore they'd die with Him ran for their lives. Human courage has limits — but God's grace meets us at those limits.

51

And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him:

Spiritual Insight

A young man wearing only a linen cloth followed Jesus. When they tried to seize him, he left the cloth and ran naked. An anonymous, vulnerable follower — tradition says it was Mark himself. Fear strips us of everything.

52

And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked.

Spiritual Insight

He fled naked, leaving everything behind. Sometimes fear makes us abandon even the little we have. But Jesus doesn't condemn our failures — He redeems them.

53

And they led Jesus away to the high priest: and with him were assembled all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes.

Spiritual Insight

They led Jesus to the high priest, with all the chief priests, elders, and teachers of the law assembled. A kangaroo court in the middle of the night — justice was never the goal.

54

And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire.

Spiritual Insight

Peter followed at a distance, right into the high priest's courtyard, and sat with the guards warming himself. Following at a distance is dangerous — close enough to see, far enough to deny.

55

And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none.

Spiritual Insight

The whole Sanhedrin was looking for evidence against Jesus to put Him to death, but they found none. When the verdict is decided before the trial, it's not justice — it's persecution.

56

For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.

Spiritual Insight

Many testified falsely, but their statements didn't agree. Even the liars couldn't get their stories straight. The truth has a coherence that fabrication can never match.

57

And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying,

Spiritual Insight

More false witnesses stood up to accuse Him. When the truth won't cooperate, people manufacture lies. But manufactured truth always unravels.

58

We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.

Spiritual Insight

We heard Him say, I will destroy this temple and build another in three days. They twisted His words — He was talking about His body, not a building. Quoting someone out of context is a form of lying.

59

But neither so did their witness agree together.

Spiritual Insight

Even then, their testimony didn't agree. The case was falling apart, but the verdict was already decided. When people are determined to destroy you, facts don't matter.

60

And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?

Spiritual Insight

The high priest stood up and demanded, Aren't you going to answer these charges? The silence of Jesus must have been maddening to them. Sometimes the most powerful testimony is saying nothing at all.

61

But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?

Spiritual Insight

Jesus remained silent and gave no answer. Then the high priest asked the real question: Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One? The moment of truth had arrived.

62

And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

Spiritual Insight

I am, Jesus said. And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of power and coming with the clouds of heaven. Two words that sealed His fate — and changed eternity.

63

Then the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses?

Spiritual Insight

The high priest tore his clothes in dramatic outrage. What more evidence do we need? He wasn't seeking truth — he was performing for the council. Religious theater at its worst.

64

Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.

Spiritual Insight

They all condemned Him to death. The religious leaders of God's own people sentenced God's own Son to die. The irony is devastating — and it was always part of God's redemptive plan.

65

And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.

Spiritual Insight

They spit on Him, blindfolded Him, beat Him, and mocked Him — Prophesy! The Creator of the universe, bruised and mocked by His own creation. Love endured what it did not deserve.

66

And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest:

Spiritual Insight

Meanwhile, Peter was below in the courtyard. While Jesus faced His accusers upstairs, Peter faced his own trial downstairs. Temptation often comes when we're tired, alone, and afraid.

67

And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth.

Spiritual Insight

A servant girl saw Peter warming himself and said, You were with Jesus of Nazareth. It wasn't an armed guard or a powerful official — just a servant girl. Often the smallest confrontations test our faith the most.

68

But he denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew.

Spiritual Insight

I don't know or understand what you're talking about, Peter denied. He went out to the porch, and the rooster crowed. The first denial — and a warning sign that went unheeded.

69

And a maid saw him again, and began to say to them that stood by, This is one of them.

Spiritual Insight

The servant girl saw him again and said to those standing there, This is one of them. Persistence in accusation can wear down our resolve. But persistence in faith can overcome it.

70

And he denied it again. And a little after, they that stood by said again to Peter, Surely thou art one of them: for thou art a Galilaean, and thy speech agreeth thereto.

Spiritual Insight

He denied it again. Then bystanders said, Surely you're one of them — you're a Galilean. His accent betrayed him. Sometimes our identity with Christ shows in ways we can't hide, no matter how hard we try.

71

But he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not this man of whom ye speak.

Spiritual Insight

He began to call down curses and swore, I don't know this man you're talking about. Peter didn't just deny — he cursed and swore. Desperation to disassociate from Jesus drove him to his lowest point.

72

And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept.

Spiritual Insight

The rooster crowed the second time. Peter remembered Jesus' words, and he broke down and wept. The rooster's crow was the sound of grace — painful, but life-changing. Peter's tears were the beginning of his restoration.
