Ezra 第 2

KJV — King James Version · 70

Each person came back to their own city. God's restoration isn't generic — it's personal. He brings you back to your specific place and purpose.

The children of Shephatiah, three hundred seventy and two.

Spiritual Insight

372 from Shephatiah's family. Whether large or small, every family that returned was part of God's great homecoming.

5

The children of Arah, seven hundred seventy and five.

Spiritual Insight

775 from Arah — they didn't let the size of their clan stop them from making the journey. Faithfulness isn't about numbers.

6

The children of Pahathmoab, of the children of Jeshua and Joab, two thousand eight hundred and twelve.

Spiritual Insight

2,812 from Pahathmoab — a large family choosing to leave comfort behind for God's promise. Sometimes the biggest sacrifices come from those who have the most to lose.

9

Spiritual Insight

760 from Zaccai. They counted every single person because every individual mattered to God's plan of restoration.

10

31

The children of the other Elam, a thousand two hundred fifty and four.

Spiritual Insight

The children of Harim, three hundred and twenty.

36

The priests: the children of Jedaiah, of the house of Jeshua, nine hundred seventy and three.

Spiritual Insight

973 priests from Jedaiah's line. The spiritual leaders came back first — worship was the priority, not just rebuilding walls.

37

The children of Immer, a thousand fifty and two.

38

The children of Pashur, a thousand two hundred forty and seven.

39

The children of Harim, a thousand and seventeen.

Spiritual Insight

1,017 from Harim's priestly family. Together with the other priests, they formed a critical mass of spiritual leadership for the restoration.

40

The Levites: the children of Jeshua and Kadmiel, of the children of Hodaviah, seventy and four.

Spiritual Insight

Only 74 Levites — surprisingly few compared to the priests. Sometimes the servants are fewer than the leaders, but their role is just as vital.

41

The singers: the children of Asaph, an hundred twenty and eight.

Spiritual Insight

128 singers from Asaph's family. Worship wasn't an afterthought — it was part of the foundation. They knew that songs would sustain them through the hard work ahead.

42

The children of the porters: the children of Shallum, the children of Ater, the children of Talmon, the children of Akkub, the children of Hatita, the children of Shobai, in all an hundred thirty and nine.

43

The Nethinims: the children of Ziha, the children of Hasupha, the children of Tabbaoth,

Spiritual Insight

The temple servants — Nethinims — begin their list. These were people who did the humble, behind-the-scenes work. God honors hidden service.

44

The children of Keros, the children of Siaha, the children of Padon,

Spiritual Insight

More temple servants listed by family. They may have been overlooked by history, but God recorded every name.

45

The children of Lebanah, the children of Hagabah, the children of Akkub,

46

The children of Hagab, the children of Shalmai, the children of Hanan,

Spiritual Insight

The list continues — Hagab, Shalmai, Hanan. These names mean nothing to us, but God knew each person and their contribution.

47

The children of Giddel, the children of Gahar, the children of Reaiah,

Spiritual Insight

Giddel, Gahar, Reaiah — servants whose names we skip over but whom God treasures. Faithfulness in small things is still faithfulness.

48

The children of Rezin, the children of Nekoda, the children of Gazzam,

Spiritual Insight

Rezin, Nekoda, Gazzam — more temple servants. Every person who showed up to serve was part of God's restoration story.

49

The children of Uzza, the children of Paseah, the children of Besai,

Spiritual Insight

Uzza, Paseah, Besai — these families chose to be part of something bigger than themselves. Their 'yes' to God's call was recorded for eternity.

50

The children of Asnah, the children of Mehunim, the children of Nephusim,

Spiritual Insight

Asnah, Mehunim, Nephusim — names we can barely pronounce, but people God called by name. He knows your name too, even when no one else does.

51

The children of Bakbuk, the children of Hakupha, the children of Harhur,

52

The children of Bazluth, the children of Mehida, the children of Harsha,

Spiritual Insight

Bazluth, Mehida, Harsha — the list keeps going. God doesn't get tired of counting His people. Each one is precious to Him.

53

The children of Barkos, the children of Sisera, the children of Thamah,

Spiritual Insight

Barkos, Sisera, Thamah. Sisera was once an enemy name, but now his descendants served in God's house. Grace can transform any lineage.

54

The children of Neziah, the children of Hatipha.

Spiritual Insight

Neziah and Hatipha close the Nethinim list. From beginning to end, every servant family was counted and valued.

55

The children of Solomon’s servants: the children of Sotai, the children of Sophereth, the children of Peruda,

Spiritual Insight

Solomon's servants — people who had served the king generations ago. Their loyalty was remembered, and they were given a place in the return.

56

The children of Jaalah, the children of Darkon, the children of Giddel,

Spiritual Insight

Jaalah, Darkon, Giddel continued the list of Solomon's servants. Service created bonds that lasted beyond generations.

57

The children of Shephatiah, the children of Hattil, the children of Pochereth of Zebaim, the children of Ami.

Spiritual Insight

Shephatiah, Hattil, Pochereth, Ami — the final names of Solomon's servants. Generations later, their service was still honored.

58

All the Nethinims, and the children of Solomon’s servants, were three hundred ninety and two.

Spiritual Insight

392 temple servants and Solomon's servants in total. Not a huge number, but enough to keep the temple running. God provides workers for His house.

59

And these were they which went up from Telmelah, Telharsa, Cherub, Addan, and Immer: but they could not shew their father’s house, and their seed, whether they were of Israel:

Spiritual Insight

Some couldn't prove their ancestry — they had lost their family records in exile. Identity crises are real, but God's grace still made room for them.

60

The children of Delaiah, the children of Tobiah, the children of Nekoda, six hundred fifty and two.

Spiritual Insight

652 people from Delaiah, Tobiah, and Nekoda whose ancestry was uncertain. They came anyway, hoping to belong. That takes courage.

61

And of the children of the priests: the children of Habaiah, the children of Koz, the children of Barzillai; which took a wife of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite, and was called after their name:

Spiritual Insight

Some priestly families had married into foreign clans and lost their distinct identity. Our choices ripple through generations.

62

These sought their register among those that were reckoned by genealogy, but they were not found: therefore were they, as polluted, put from the priesthood.

Spiritual Insight

Without genealogical proof, these priestly families were excluded from their role. Standards mattered — but so did the hope of future restoration.

63

And the Tirshatha said unto them, that they should not eat of the most holy things, till there stood up a priest with Urim and with Thummim.

Spiritual Insight

The governor told them to wait for a priest with Urim and Thummim. Sometimes the answer is 'not yet,' and faith means trusting God with the waiting.

64

The whole congregation together was forty and two thousand three hundred and threescore,

Spiritual Insight

42,360 people total — a whole community on the move. This was one of the great migrations of faith in history.

65

Beside their servants and their maids, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred thirty and seven: and there were among them two hundred singing men and singing women.

Spiritual Insight

7,337 servants and 200 singers accompanied them. The return wasn't just survival — it included music, joy, and the support of a full community.

66

Their horses were seven hundred thirty and six; their mules, two hundred forty and five;

Spiritual Insight

736 horses and 245 mules — they traveled with resources. God's provision was practical, not just spiritual.

67

Their camels, four hundred thirty and five; their asses, six thousand seven hundred and twenty.

Spiritual Insight

435 camels and 6,720 donkeys. This was not a small group sneaking back — it was a massive, well-equipped caravan of faith.

68

And some of the chief of the fathers, when they came to the house of the LORD which is at Jerusalem, offered freely for the house of God to set it up in his place:

Spiritual Insight

Some of the family heads arrived and immediately gave freewill offerings. Generosity was their first response to being home — gratitude in action.

69

They gave after their ability unto the treasure of the work threescore and one thousand drams of gold, and five thousand pound of silver, and one hundred priests’ garments.

Spiritual Insight

They gave according to their ability — 61,000 gold drachmas, 5,000 silver minas, 100 priestly garments. Everyone contributed what they could.

70

So the priests, and the Levites, and some of the people, and the singers, and the porters, and the Nethinims, dwelt in their cities, and all Israel in their cities.

Spiritual Insight

Everyone settled into their own towns — priests, Levites, singers, gatekeepers, temple servants, and all Israel. The community was restored, and each person found their place.
