Ephesians 第 5

KJV — King James Version · 33

1

Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;

Spiritual Insight

Be imitators of God as beloved children. Children naturally copy their parents — so copy your heavenly Father. Not out of obligation, but out of love.

2

And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

Spiritual Insight

Walk in love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself as an offering. Love isn't just a feeling — it's a sacrifice. And it smells good to God.

3

But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;

Spiritual Insight

Sexual immorality, impurity, and greed shouldn't even be named among believers. Not because we're prudes, but because we're called to something better.

4

Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.

Spiritual Insight

Coarse joking and foolish talk are replaced by thanksgiving. Gratitude is the antidote to cynicism. A thankful mouth can't simultaneously be a dirty one.

5

For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

Spiritual Insight

Those who persist in these things have no inheritance in God's kingdom. This isn't about perfection — it's about direction. What direction is your life headed?

6

Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.

Spiritual Insight

Don't be deceived by empty words. The world has plenty of persuasive arguments for compromise. But empty words lead to empty lives.

7

Be not ye therefore partakers with them.

Spiritual Insight

Don't partner with them. There's a line between being in the world and being of it. Friendship with the world means you absorb its values.

8

For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:

Spiritual Insight

You were darkness, but now you are light. Not just 'in the light' — you ARE light. Your very presence illuminates dark places.

9

(For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)

Spiritual Insight

The fruit of light is goodness, righteousness, and truth. Light doesn't just expose — it produces something beautiful. Where God's light shines, good things grow.

10

Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.

Spiritual Insight

Find out what pleases the Lord. This isn't about rigid rule-keeping — it's about learning what brings joy to God's heart, like discovering what your best friend loves.

11

And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

Spiritual Insight

Don't participate in fruitless darkness but expose it. Silence in the face of evil is participation. Sometimes love means turning on the lights.

12

For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.

Spiritual Insight

Some things done in secret are too shameful to even talk about. Not every hidden thing needs to be brought into conversation — but it does need to be brought into the light.

13

But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.

Spiritual Insight

Everything exposed by the light becomes visible. Light doesn't create the problem — it reveals what's already there. And that's the first step toward healing.

14

Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.

Spiritual Insight

Wake up, sleeper, and Christ will shine on you. There's an alarm clock in the gospel — a call to stop sleepwalking through life and start living awake.

15

See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,

Spiritual Insight

Walk carefully, not as fools but as wise. Wisdom isn't about knowing everything — it's about paying attention to how you walk through life.

16

Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

Spiritual Insight

Redeem the time, because the days are evil. Time is a non-renewable resource. Every moment spent well is a moment redeemed from waste.

17

Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

Spiritual Insight

Don't be unwise, but understand the Lord's will. There's a difference between being naive and being discerning. God's will isn't hidden — it's available to those who seek it.

18

And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

Spiritual Insight

Don't be drunk with wine, but be filled with the Spirit. One substance controls you from outside; the Other fills you from inside. The Spirit produces a better kind of 'intoxication' — joy that doesn't bring regret.

19

Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

Spiritual Insight

Speak to one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord. Music is the language of the Spirit — it bypasses the head and goes straight to the heart.

20

Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

Spiritual Insight

Always give thanks for everything to God. Not 'in spite of everything' — but 'for everything.' That requires trust that God is working even in what you don't understand.

21

Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

Spiritual Insight

Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. Mutual submission is radical — it means putting others first, not because you're weak, but because you respect Christ.

22

Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

Spiritual Insight

Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. This isn't about inferiority — it's about order and trust. In a healthy marriage, submission flows from love and respect.

23

For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

Spiritual Insight

The husband is head of the wife as Christ is head of the church. Biblical headship isn't about power — it's about responsibility and sacrificial care.

24

Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

Spiritual Insight

As the church submits to Christ, so wives to their husbands. The model for marital submission is the church's willing, trusting relationship with Jesus.

25

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

Spiritual Insight

Husbands, love your wives as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her. That's the highest possible standard — sacrificial, self-giving love that puts her needs above your own.

26

That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

Spiritual Insight

Christ cleanses the church with the washing of water by the Word. God's Word has a cleansing effect — it doesn't just inform; it purifies.

27

That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

Spiritual Insight

He wants to present a glorious church without spot or wrinkle. God isn't looking for a perfect church — He's making one. The blemishes are being removed by His patient love.

28

So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

Spiritual Insight

Husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. When you love your wife, you're loving yourself — because in marriage, two become one. Neglecting her is self-harm.

29

For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:

Spiritual Insight

No one hates their own flesh but nourishes and cherishes it. Even more so, Christ nourishes and cherishes the church. You are deeply cared for by Jesus Himself.

30

For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

Spiritual Insight

We are members of His body, of His flesh and bones. The connection between Christ and His church is the most intimate union imaginable — closer than family.

31

For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.

Spiritual Insight

A man leaves father and mother and is joined to his wife — the two become one. Marriage is a leaving and a cleaving. It's the most fundamental human bond.

32

This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

Spiritual Insight

This is a great mystery — but Paul is talking about Christ and the church. Your marriage is a living parable of God's love for His people. That's an awesome responsibility and privilege.

33

Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

Spiritual Insight

Each husband must love his wife as himself, and the wife must respect her husband. Love and respect — the two ingredients that make marriage thrive. Both sides have a part to play.
