2 Timothy 第 2

KJV — King James Version · 26

1

Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

Spiritual Insight

Be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. Strength doesn't come from willpower alone — it comes from resting in God's grace. When we feel weak, the answer isn't to try harder but to lean deeper into His unmerited favor.

2

And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

Spiritual Insight

Pass on what you've learned to faithful people who will teach others too. This is a four-generation vision: Paul → Timothy → faithful people → others. The gospel grows through intentional investment in people who will multiply.

3

Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

Spiritual Insight

Endure hardship like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. Soldiers don't expect comfort — they expect battle. When we follow Jesus, hardship isn't a surprise; it's part of the assignment. Endurance is a mark of faithfulness.

4

No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

Spiritual Insight

A soldier doesn't get entangled in civilian affairs but focuses on pleasing the commanding officer. There's a call here to single-minded devotion. When we spread ourselves too thin, we lose effectiveness in the mission that matters most.

5

And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.

Spiritual Insight

An athlete can't win the crown unless they compete according to the rules. Integrity matters. Taking shortcuts or bending the rules might seem to work, but in God's economy, only faithful, rule-following effort receives the prize.

6

The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits.

Spiritual Insight

The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops. There's an order to God's provision — those who labor faithfully get to enjoy the fruit. Work done for God is never wasted; it always leads to harvest.

7

Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.

Spiritual Insight

Consider what I say, and may the Lord give you understanding in everything. Paul trusts that the Holy Spirit will illuminate his words. We do our part by reflecting, and God does His part by giving insight.

8

Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:

Spiritual Insight

Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David — this is Paul's gospel in a sentence. At the heart of everything is a person: Jesus, who died and rose again. Never move past this central truth.

9

Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.

Spiritual Insight

Paul suffers chains like a criminal, but the word of God is not chained. They can imprison the messenger, but they can never imprison the message. God's word is unstoppable, no matter what opposition it faces.

10

Therefore I endure all things for the elect’s sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

Spiritual Insight

Paul endures everything for the sake of the elect, so they too may obtain salvation. His suffering has a purpose — others' salvation. When we understand that our struggles can serve someone else's redemption, it gives them profound meaning.

11

It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:

Spiritual Insight

If we died with Him, we will also live with Him. This is the rhythm of the gospel: death before life, cross before resurrection. Sharing in Christ's death is the pathway to sharing in His life.

12

If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:

Spiritual Insight

If we endure, we will reign with Him; if we deny Him, He will deny us. There's a seriousness to following Jesus — it requires perseverance. But the reward of reigning with Christ far surpasses any cost we might pay.

13

If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.

Spiritual Insight

Even if we are faithless, He remains faithful — He cannot deny Himself. This is one of the most comforting verses in Scripture. Our failures don't change God's character. His faithfulness is rooted in who He is, not in how we perform.

14

Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.

Spiritual Insight

Remind people not to quarrel about words — it's useless and ruins those who listen. Arguments over theological minutiae can actually destroy faith. There's a warning here about prioritizing being right over being helpful.

15

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Spiritual Insight

Do your best to present yourself approved to God, a worker who doesn't need to be ashamed, correctly handling the word of truth. Studying Scripture isn't just academic — it's a craft to be practiced with care and reverence.

16

But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

Spiritual Insight

Avoid godless chatter — it leads to more ungodliness. Words matter. What we fill our minds with shapes who we become. Empty talk isn't harmless; it's corrosive.

17

And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;

Spiritual Insight

False teaching spreads like gangrene — Paul names Hymenaeus and Philetus as examples. Bad theology isn't just incorrect; it's dangerous, like a disease that infects the whole body if left unchecked.

18

Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.

Spiritual Insight

These teachers have wandered from the truth, saying the resurrection has already happened, and they're overthrowing people's faith. When core truths are distorted, people's spiritual foundations crumble. Truth matters because people's faith depends on it.

19

Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

Spiritual Insight

God's solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: 'The Lord knows those who are His' and 'Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn from wickedness.' Security and holiness go together — we're known by God and called to live set apart.

20

But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.

Spiritual Insight

In a large house there are vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay — some for noble use, some for ignoble. The difference isn't the house but the vessel's readiness to be used for honor. God can use anyone who makes themselves available.

21

If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.

Spiritual Insight

If anyone cleanses themselves, they'll be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful to the Master. Holiness isn't about being better than others — it's about being available for God's purposes. A clean vessel is a ready vessel.

22

Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

Spiritual Insight

Flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart. We need both boundaries (flee) and direction (pursue), and we need companions for the journey.

23

But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.

Spiritual Insight

Avoid foolish and ignorant controversies — they breed quarrels. Not every argument is worth having. Some debates only create division without producing understanding. Wisdom knows when to walk away.

24

And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,

Spiritual Insight

The Lord's servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, and patient. Christian leadership isn't about winning arguments — it's about gentle persistence. A soft answer really can turn away wrath.

25

In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

Spiritual Insight

Gently instruct those who oppose themselves — God may grant them repentance leading to knowledge of the truth. Our job is to be gentle; God's job is to change hearts. We plant and water, but God gives the growth.

26

And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

Spiritual Insight

They may escape the devil's trap, who has taken them captive to do his will. Behind opposition to the gospel often lies spiritual captivity. That should move us to compassion, not anger, for those who are caught.
