John Capítulo 9
KJV — King James Version · 41 versículos
And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.
Spiritual Insight
Jesus noticed a man blind from birth. In a world that walked past suffering, he stopped and saw. That's where miracles begin—with truly seeing someone.
And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?
Spiritual Insight
The disciples' question reveals a common assumption: someone must be to blame for suffering. But Jesus is about to turn that thinking upside down.
Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.
Spiritual Insight
Neither this man nor his parents sinned—this happened so God's works could be displayed. Sometimes our deepest struggles become the canvas for God's greatest displays.
I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
Spiritual Insight
We must work while it's day—night is coming when no one can work. There's an urgency to doing good that shouldn't be postponed.
As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
Spiritual Insight
As long as I'm in the world, I am the light of the world. Jesus doesn't just point to the light—he is the light.
When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,
Spiritual Insight
Spit, mud, and a gentle touch. God's methods are often unexpected and surprisingly earthy. He uses simple things to accomplish extraordinary healing.
And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.
Spiritual Insight
Go wash in the pool of Siloam. The man didn't argue or question—he just went and washed. Sometimes obedience is as simple as showing up.
The neighbours therefore, and they which before had seen him that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged?
Spiritual Insight
The neighbors could hardly believe their eyes—is this the same beggar they'd walked past for years? A genuine transformation always raises questions.
Some said, This is he: others said, He is like him: but he said, I am he.
Spiritual Insight
Some said it's him, others said it just looks like him. But the man himself was clear: I am he. Nobody knows your story like you do.
Therefore said they unto him, How were thine eyes opened?
Spiritual Insight
How were your eyes opened? A simple question that invited a simple testimony. You don't need a theology degree to share what happened to you.
He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight.
Spiritual Insight
A man called Jesus made mud, put it on my eyes, told me to wash, and now I see. The most powerful testimony is just telling what happened, plainly and honestly.
Then said they unto him, Where is he? He said, I know not.
Spiritual Insight
Where is he? I don't know. The healed man was honest about the limits of his knowledge. You don't need to have all the answers to be a witness.
They brought to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind.
Spiritual Insight
They brought him to the Pharisees—the religious authorities. A healing that should have been celebrated was about to become an interrogation.
And it was the sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.
Spiritual Insight
It was the Sabbath. The day that was meant for rest and delight had become a legal minefield. Rules can turn gifts into burdens.
Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see.
Spiritual Insight
The Pharisees asked him again, and he gave the same simple answer: he put mud on my eyes, I washed, I see. Consistency under pressure is its own kind of strength.
Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them.
Spiritual Insight
Division again—some said he can't be from God because he broke the Sabbath, others said a sinner couldn't do such signs. The same evidence, opposite conclusions.
They say unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a prophet.
Spiritual Insight
They asked the man himself, and he said: he's a prophet. Not a full theological statement, but an honest assessment. Sometimes that's exactly what's needed.
But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight.
Spiritual Insight
The Jews refused to believe he had been blind. When the evidence challenges your position, it's easier to deny the evidence than change your mind.
And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? how then doth he now see?
Spiritual Insight
They grilled the parents: is this your son? Was he really born blind? How can he see? The pressure to explain a miracle can be overwhelming.
His parents answered them and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:
Spiritual Insight
The parents confirmed the basics: yes, he's our son, yes, he was born blind. Sometimes all you can do is state the facts and let the truth speak for itself.
But by what means he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age; ask him: he shall speak for himself.
Spiritual Insight
But how he sees now, we don't know—he's of age, ask him. The parents wisely deflected. Not every question requires your answer.
These words spake his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man did confess that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.
Spiritual Insight
They were afraid of being expelled from the synagogue. Fear of social and religious exclusion is a powerful silencer of truth.
Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him.
Spiritual Insight
That's why they said, ask him. Fear made them distance themselves from their own son's miracle. Sometimes fear robs us of our own joy.
Then again called they the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner.
Spiritual Insight
Give glory to God—we know this man is a sinner. They tried to frame their rejection as piety. Religious language can mask deep resistance to truth.
He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.
Spiritual Insight
One thing I know: I was blind, now I see. Perhaps the greatest line in all of Scripture—simple, undeniable, deeply personal.
Then said they to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes?
Spiritual Insight
They asked the same question again, hoping to trap him in inconsistency. Repeating a question doesn't change the answer when the answer is true.
He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples?
Spiritual Insight
I already told you and you didn't listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you want to become his disciples too? The man's boldness is refreshing.
Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are Moses’ disciples.
Spiritual Insight
They reviled him—'You're his disciple; we're Moses' disciples.' Drawing lines of identity to protect their position. Labels can be walls.
We know that God spake unto Moses: as for this fellow, we know not from whence he is.
Spiritual Insight
We know God spoke to Moses, but as for this fellow, we don't know where he's from. Familiarity became their standard for truth.
The man answered and said unto them, Why herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes.
Spiritual Insight
The man's logic is devastating: you don't know where he's from, yet he opened my eyes. Sometimes common sense cuts through theological complexity.
Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.
Spiritual Insight
We know God doesn't listen to sinners, but he does listen to the godly. The healed man's theology was simple and arrived at through experience.
Since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind.
Spiritual Insight
Nobody has ever heard of opening the eyes of someone born blind. The uniqueness of the miracle was its own argument.
If this man were not of God, he could do nothing.
Spiritual Insight
If this man weren't from God, he could do nothing. The conclusion is inescapable, drawn from the evidence right in front of them.
They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.
Spiritual Insight
You were born in sin and you're lecturing us? And they threw him out. When you can't refute the argument, expel the person.
Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?
Spiritual Insight
Jesus heard they'd thrown him out and went to find him. When religious people reject you, Jesus comes looking for you.
He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him?
Spiritual Insight
Who is he, Lord? Tell me, so I can believe. The man's openness is beautiful—he's ready to believe, he just needs to know who to trust.
And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee.
Spiritual Insight
You've seen him—he's the one talking with you. No complicated theology required—just a personal encounter with Jesus.
And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.
Spiritual Insight
Lord, I believe. And he worshiped him. Three words of faith, followed by the most natural response—worship. When you truly see Jesus, you fall down.
And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.
Spiritual Insight
I came so the blind might see and those who see might become blind. Jesus turns the whole concept of seeing upside down.
And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also?
Spiritual Insight
Are we blind too? The Pharisees asked, not realizing that their question revealed more than they intended.
Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.
Spiritual Insight
If you were blind, you'd have no guilt. But since you claim to see, your guilt remains. The most dangerous blindness is the kind you don't know you have.
