John Capítulo 1

KJV — King James Version · 51 versículos

1

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Spiritual Insight

Before anything existed, there was already the Word—God's own expression, present from the very start. It's comforting to know that God wasn't alone in the beginning; relationship has always been at the heart of everything.

2

The same was in the beginning with God.

Spiritual Insight

This verse quietly repeats what was just said, as if to make sure we don't miss it. The Word wasn't created—He was already there, alongside God, from the very beginning.

3

All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Spiritual Insight

Everything that exists came through Him—every star, every tree, every person. That means the world around us isn't random; it was intentionally made by someone who cares about every detail.

4

In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

Spiritual Insight

Life isn't just about existing—it's about having a kind of life that shines. In Him, that life becomes a light that guides us when everything feels dark and uncertain.

5

And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

Spiritual Insight

The light doesn't stop shining just because the darkness doesn't understand it. No matter how heavy things feel, the darkness has never been able to put out that light.

6

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.

Spiritual Insight

God didn't just send a message—He sent a person, John, with a real life and a real calling. God still uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things.

7

The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.

Spiritual Insight

John's whole purpose was to point others toward the Light, not to shine on his own. There's something beautiful about living a life that directs people to something greater than yourself.

8

He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.

Spiritual Insight

John wasn't the Light, but he knew the Light personally. You don't have to be the answer yourself—sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is simply introduce someone to the One who is.

9

That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

Spiritual Insight

The true Light doesn't just shine for a select few—it comes for every single person who enters this world. No one is left out of the invitation.

10

He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

Spiritual Insight

He was right here, in the world He made, and the world didn't even recognize Him. It's sobering to think that we can be so close to God and still miss Him.

11

He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

Spiritual Insight

He came to His own people, the ones who should have known Him best, and they turned Him away. Rejection from those closest to you hurts the most—but He came anyway.

12

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

Spiritual Insight

To anyone who opens the door, He gives something incredible—the right to become God's own children. It's not about being good enough; it's about believing and receiving.

13

Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

Spiritual Insight

This new identity doesn't come from family lineage, personal effort, or human ambition. It comes directly from God—a birth that has nothing to do with what we've earned.

14

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Spiritual Insight

The Word didn't stay distant—He moved into our neighborhood. He became flesh and blood, and in Him we glimpsed the Father's glory, full of grace and truth.

15

John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.

Spiritual Insight

John couldn't stop talking about Jesus, even though Jesus came after him chronologically. He understood that Jesus existed long before time itself—eternity walking among us.

16

And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.

Spiritual Insight

From His fullness, we've all received—not just a trickle, but grace upon grace. One blessing after another, like waves that never stop coming to shore.

17

For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

Spiritual Insight

The law showed us the standard, but grace and truth showed us the way home. Moses gave instructions; Jesus brought the transformation that actually changes hearts.

18

No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

Spiritual Insight

No one has seen God directly, but Jesus has made Him known. If you want to know what God is like, look at Jesus—He is the clearest picture we have of the Father's heart.

19

And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou?

Spiritual Insight

The religious leaders sent investigators to figure out who John was. When God starts moving, people start asking questions—and sometimes those questions come from unexpected places.

20

And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ.

Spiritual Insight

John could have grabbed the spotlight, but he was crystal clear: I am not the Christ. There's a quiet strength in knowing who you are—and who you're not.

21

And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No.

Spiritual Insight

They kept guessing—Elijah? The Prophet? John kept saying no to every title they offered. He didn't need a label to validate his calling.

22

Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?

Spiritual Insight

They just needed an answer to take back to their bosses. Sometimes people aren't genuinely curious—they just need a box to put you in.

23

He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.

Spiritual Insight

John finally answered, quoting Isaiah: he was a voice, crying out in the wilderness, preparing the way. A voice doesn't draw attention to itself—it points to someone coming.

24

And they which were sent were of the Pharisees.

Spiritual Insight

The Pharisees had sent these questioners, which means this wasn't casual curiosity. The religious establishment was already paying attention—and feeling threatened.

25

And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet?

Spiritual Insight

Their real question was about authority: if you're nobody special, who gave you the right to baptize? It's funny how people question your calling when it doesn't fit their expectations.

26

John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;

Spiritual Insight

John's answer was almost mysterious: someone is standing right here among you, and you don't even know Him. God might be closer than we realize, hidden in plain sight.

27

He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe’s latchet I am not worthy to unloose.

Spiritual Insight

John considered himself unworthy even to untie Jesus' sandals—the lowest job of a servant. When you've truly seen Jesus for who He is, all self-importance melts away.

28

These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.

Spiritual Insight

This all happened in a real place—Bethany beyond the Jordan. God's story doesn't happen in a vacuum; it unfolds in specific places, in ordinary moments, among real people.

29

The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

Spiritual Insight

Look—the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. Not just our personal mistakes, but the entire weight of brokenness. That's a lot of carrying, and He did it willingly.

30

This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.

Spiritual Insight

John repeats what he said before, as if he still can't get over it. The one coming after him actually existed before him—eternity stepping into time will always be mind-blowing.

31

And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.

Spiritual Insight

John admits he didn't know Jesus by sight—his obedience came before his understanding. Sometimes God asks us to step out in faith, and the clarity comes later.

32

And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.

Spiritual Insight

The Spirit came down like a dove and stayed on Him. Not a fleeting visit but a permanent resting. When God's Spirit lands on someone, He intends to remain.

33

And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.

Spiritual Insight

God had given John a specific sign to watch for, and he waited faithfully until he saw it. There's wisdom in knowing what you're looking for and trusting God to reveal it in His time.

34

And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.

Spiritual Insight

John saw, and he testified—this is the Son of God. When you encounter the real thing, you can't keep quiet about it. Witnessing isn't a job; it's an overflow.

35

Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples;

Spiritual Insight

The next day, John was just standing there with two of his disciples. No big event, no crowd—just a quiet moment that would change everything for those two men.

36

And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!

Spiritual Insight

Again, John points to Jesus: Look, the Lamb of God! He said it before, and he'll keep saying it. Some messages are worth repeating, especially when they're about Jesus.

37

And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.

Spiritual Insight

The disciples heard John speak, and they followed Jesus. That's all it took—someone they trusted pointed the way, and they started walking. Simple faith can start with just one step.

38

Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou?

Spiritual Insight

Jesus turned and asked them the most basic question: What are you looking for? It's a question worth sitting with—because what we're truly seeking shapes where we end up.

39

He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.

Spiritual Insight

Come and see. Jesus didn't give them a lecture—He gave them an invitation. They spent the whole day with Him, and that one afternoon changed the trajectory of their lives.

40

One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.

Spiritual Insight

Andrew was one of those two disciples, and he's about to do something remarkable. Often the most impactful things start with someone whose name we almost overlook.

41

He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.

Spiritual Insight

The first thing Andrew did was find his brother Simon and share the news. When you find something this good, your first instinct is to tell the people you love most.

42

And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.

Spiritual Insight

Jesus looked at Simon and immediately saw beyond who he was to who he would become—a rock. Jesus has a way of calling out potential in us that we can't yet see in ourselves.

43

The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me.

Spiritual Insight

Jesus took the initiative with Philip—He went looking for him and simply said, Follow me. Sometimes the most powerful invitation is the most straightforward one.

44

Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.

Spiritual Insight

Philip was from the same town as Andrew and Peter. God often builds His community through existing relationships—friends and family sharing what they've found.

45

Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.

Spiritual Insight

Philip found Nathanael and connected the dots—this is the one Moses and the prophets wrote about. When you see the bigger story come together, you just have to tell someone.

46

And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see.

Spiritual Insight

Nazareth? Really? Nathanael was skeptical, and Philip didn't argue—he just said, Come and see. Sometimes the best response to doubt is a simple invitation to experience it yourself.

47

Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!

Spiritual Insight

Jesus saw Nathanael and immediately spoke to his character—no deceit, no pretending. There's something freeing about being known for who you really are, and being valued for it.

48

Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.

Spiritual Insight

Before Philip even called you, I saw you under the fig tree. Jesus knows where we are, even in our quiet, unnoticed moments. No corner of our lives is hidden from His gaze.

49

Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.

Spiritual Insight

Nathanael's skepticism turned to conviction in an instant—Rabbi, you are the Son of God. One personal encounter with Jesus can completely overturn our doubts.

50

Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these.

Spiritual Insight

Jesus gently teased: you believe because I saw you under a fig tree? You haven't seen anything yet. Faith that starts small is about to get a whole lot bigger.

51

And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.

Spiritual Insight

Jesus promised an open heaven—angels ascending and descending on the Son of Man. The gap between heaven and earth is being bridged, and He is the connection point.
