2 Timothy Capítulo 4
KJV — King James Version · 22 versículos
I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
Spiritual Insight
Paul charges Timothy before God and Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead. This is serious business. Ministry isn't a casual endeavor — it's done in the presence of the One who will evaluate everything.
Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
Spiritual Insight
Preach the word — be ready in season and out of season; correct, rebuke, and encourage with great patience and instruction. The call to preach isn't limited to convenient moments. Faithfulness means speaking truth whether it's popular or not.
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
Spiritual Insight
A time will come when people won't tolerate sound teaching but will gather teachers who say what their itching ears want to hear. The danger isn't that truth disappears — it's that people stop wanting it. We need to guard our appetite for truth.
And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
Spiritual Insight
They'll turn from truth and wander off into myths. When we stop listening to truth, we don't stop listening — we just start listening to fiction. Myths are more comfortable than truth, but they can never set us free.
But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.
Spiritual Insight
But you — keep your head, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge your ministry fully. In contrast to those chasing comfortable lies, Timothy is called to clear-headed endurance and complete faithfulness to his calling.
For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.
Spiritual Insight
Paul says he's already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time of his departure is near. He faces death with the language of worship — his life is an offering to God. Even his dying is an act of devotion.
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
Spiritual Insight
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Three perfect images of a life well-lived: battle, endurance, loyalty. At the end, what matters is not what we achieved but that we stayed faithful.
Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
Spiritual Insight
A crown of righteousness awaits — not just for Paul but for all who love Christ's appearing. The reward isn't only for super-Christians; it's for everyone who longs for Jesus to return. Our anticipation of His coming is itself an act of love.
Do thy diligence to come shortly unto me:
Spiritual Insight
Do your best to come to me quickly. Even the great apostle Paul needs companionship. There's no shame in asking for company when you're lonely. We were never designed to walk alone.
For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia.
Spiritual Insight
Demas has deserted me, loving this present world. Crescens went to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia. Even close coworkers can fall away. The pain of abandonment is real, but Paul continues his mission despite the loss.
Only Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry.
Spiritual Insight
Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him — he's helpful to my ministry. In the end, Paul values faithful companions and even reconciles with Mark, who once deserted him. Grace makes room for second chances.
And Tychicus have I sent to Ephesus.
Spiritual Insight
I sent Tychicus to Ephesus. Even in his final days, Paul is managing the movement, making sure each church is cared for. Leadership means thinking about others' needs even when you're facing death.
The cloke that I left at Troas with Carpus, when thou comest, bring with thee, and the books, but especially the parchments.
Spiritual Insight
Bring the cloak I left with Carpus, and the scrolls, especially the parchments. Paul still wants his coat and his books. A man facing death still cares about staying warm and feeding his mind. Never stop reading; never stop learning.
Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him according to his works:
Spiritual Insight
Alexander the coppersmith did me great harm — the Lord will repay him. Paul doesn't pretend everything is fine. He names those who hurt him and trusts God with justice. It's okay to acknowledge wrongs done to us while leaving vengeance to God.
Of whom be thou ware also; for he hath greatly withstood our words.
Spiritual Insight
Be on your guard against Alexander too — he strongly opposed our message. A warning from experience: some people are persistently hostile to the gospel. Forewarned is forearmed. Protect yourself without becoming bitter.
At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me: I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge.
Spiritual Insight
At my first defense, no one stood with me — everyone deserted me. But Paul prays it won't be counted against them. Even in the pain of total abandonment, he extends grace. That's Christlikeness at its most powerful.
Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.
Spiritual Insight
But the Lord stood with me and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed to the Gentiles. When everyone leaves, God stays. His presence is enough — not just to survive but to complete the mission.
And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Spiritual Insight
The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and bring me safely to His heavenly kingdom. To God be glory forever. Paul's confidence isn't in escaping death but in God's ultimate deliverance into His kingdom. Either way, God wins.
Salute Prisca and Aquila, and the household of Onesiphorus.
Spiritual Insight
Greet Priscilla and Aquila, and the household of Onesiphorus. Paul's final words are about people — real relationships that sustained him. Ministry is never just about ideas; it's always about the people God puts in our lives.
Erastus abode at Corinth: but Trophimus have I left at Miletum sick.
Spiritual Insight
Erastus stayed in Corinth, and Trophimus was left sick in Miletus. Even Paul couldn't heal everyone — Trophimus stayed sick. Miracles are real, but so is the reality that faithful people sometimes remain unhealed. We trust God either way.
Do thy diligence to come before winter. Eubulus greeteth thee, and Pudens, and Linus, and Claudia, and all the brethren.
Spiritual Insight
Do your best to come before winter. Personal details — greetings from friends, a simple plea to come before the weather makes travel impossible. Behind every letter is a real person in a real situation needing real connection.
The Lord Jesus Christ be with thy spirit. Grace be with you. Amen.
Spiritual Insight
The Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Grace be with you. Paul's final blessing is simple and profound — Jesus' presence and God's grace. That's really all any of us need.
