1 Corinthians Capítulo 5
KJV — King James Version · 13 versículos
It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father’s wife.
Spiritual Insight
The situation was scandalous even by pagan standards. Sometimes the church tolerates what even the world finds unacceptable — that should stop us in our tracks.
And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.
Spiritual Insight
Instead of mourning, they were proud. Spiritual arrogance can make us numb to sin — even sin that should break our hearts.
For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed,
Spiritual Insight
Paul is physically absent but spiritually present, and his judgment is already made. True pastoral care sometimes means making hard calls from a distance.
In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,
Spiritual Insight
This is a community decision, made in Jesus' name and power. Church discipline isn't one person's vendetta — it's the family acting together under Christ's authority.
To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
Spiritual Insight
Handing someone over to Satan sounds harsh, but the purpose is redemptive — to save the spirit even if the flesh suffers. God's discipline always aims at restoration.
Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?
Spiritual Insight
A little yeast affects the whole batch of dough. Tolerating sin in the community isn't being gracious — it's being negligent. One person's compromise can spread quickly.
Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:
Spiritual Insight
Clean out the old yeast — Christ, our Passover, has already been sacrificed. You're already made new; now live like it. The feast of freedom requires a clean house.
Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
Spiritual Insight
Keep the feast with sincerity and truth, not with malice and wickedness. The Christian life is a celebration — but one that requires honesty and purity.
I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators:
Spiritual Insight
Paul had already written to them about avoiding immoral people. Some instructions bear repeating — not because people forget, but because the stakes are high.
Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world.
Spiritual Insight
You can't avoid every sinful person — you'd have to leave the world. Paul is realistic about where we live. Holiness isn't isolation; it's distinction within engagement.
But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.
Spiritual Insight
But a *brother* who persistently lives in sin is different — don't even eat with such a person. The standard is higher inside the family, because the stakes are higher.
For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?
Spiritual Insight
Paul makes a clear distinction: judge those inside the church, not those outside. The world isn't held to the same standard — but the church should be.
But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.
Spiritual Insight
God will judge the outside world. But inside, the community must act — remove the wicked person. Love sometimes means drawing a firm line.
