Proverbs Chapter 11
KJV — King James Version · 31 verses
A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight.
Spiritual Insight
God cares deeply about fairness, even in the smallest details of daily life. Honest dealings, no matter how small, bring joy to His heart.
When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.
Spiritual Insight
Pride is a fast track to embarrassment and shame. Humility, though less flashy, opens the door to true wisdom.
The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.
Spiritual Insight
Integrity serves as an inner compass that keeps you on the right path. Crookedness, meanwhile, becomes the very thing that destroys you.
Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.
Spiritual Insight
When the storm of judgment comes, all the money in the world won't save you. Righteousness—right standing with God—is what truly rescues.
The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way: but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness.
Spiritual Insight
A blameless life clears the road ahead, making the way straight. The wicked, ironically, are tripped up by their own wrong choices.
The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them: but transgressors shall be taken in their own naughtiness.
Spiritual Insight
Righteousness has a way of rescuing you from tight spots. But those who scheme and deceive end up trapped by their own tricks.
When a wicked man dieth, his expectation shall perish: and the hope of unjust men perisheth.
Spiritual Insight
When a wicked person dies, all their dreams and ambitions die with them. Without God, even our greatest hopes vanish like smoke.
The righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked cometh in his stead.
Spiritual Insight
The righteous find a way through trouble, while the wicked step right into the trap that was meant for someone else. God's justice may not always be immediate, but it is certain.
An hypocrite with his mouth destroyeth his neighbour: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered.
Spiritual Insight
A hypocrite can destroy a neighbor with nothing but words. But genuine knowledge and truth have the power to rescue and protect.
When it goeth well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth: and when the wicked perish, there is shouting.
Spiritual Insight
When good people thrive, the whole community celebrates. And when corruption is removed, there's an audible sigh of relief.
By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.
Spiritual Insight
The blessing of upright people lifts up an entire city. But corrosive words from the wicked can bring a community to its knees.
He that is void of wisdom despiseth his neighbour: but a man of understanding holdeth his peace.
Spiritual Insight
It takes no wisdom at all to look down on your neighbor. A truly understanding person knows when silence speaks louder than words.
A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter.
Spiritual Insight
A gossip thrives on revealing secrets, but a trustworthy soul knows how to hold confidence. Being a safe person for others is a rare and beautiful gift.
Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.
Spiritual Insight
Trying to navigate life alone is a recipe for falling. Surrounding yourself with wise counselors creates a safety net you didn't know you needed.
He that is surety for a stranger shall smart for it: and he that hateth suretiship is sure.
Spiritual Insight
Guaranteeing someone else's debt can bring unexpected pain. Sometimes the wisest financial decision is simply knowing when to say no.
A gracious woman retaineth honour: and strong men retain riches.
Spiritual Insight
A gracious person attracts respect, just as strength attracts wealth. Character and competence each have their own kind of reward.
The merciful man doeth good to his own soul: but he that is cruel troubleth his own flesh.
Spiritual Insight
Kindness is not just good for others—it actually heals your own soul. Cruelty, by contrast, eats away at you from the inside.
The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward.
Spiritual Insight
The wages of wickedness are unreliable and deceptive. But when you sow righteousness, you can count on a genuine harvest.
As righteousness tendeth to life: so he that pursueth evil pursueth it to his own death.
Spiritual Insight
Pursuing righteousness leads you deeper into life. Pursuing evil is essentially chasing your own destruction.
They that are of a froward heart are abomination to the LORD: but such as are upright in their way are his delight.
Spiritual Insight
God has no patience for those who scheme with a crooked heart. But people who walk in integrity bring Him genuine delight.
Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.
Spiritual Insight
Evil may seem powerful when people join forces, but no alliance can escape God's justice. The children of the righteous, however, will find deliverance.
As a jewel of gold in a swine’s snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion.
Spiritual Insight
Beauty without discretion is as out of place as a gold ring in a pig's snout. Outer appearance means nothing without inner wisdom.
The desire of the righteous is only good: but the expectation of the wicked is wrath.
Spiritual Insight
The desires of a righteous person lead toward what is truly good. The expectations of the wicked, however, end in disappointment and wrath.
There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty.
Spiritual Insight
It seems backwards, but generous people often end up with more. Hoarding beyond what is right tends to lead to unexpected lack.
The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.
Spiritual Insight
When you refresh others, you end up refreshed yourself. Generosity creates a beautiful cycle that blesses everyone involved.
He that withholdeth corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth it.
Spiritual Insight
Withholding something people desperately need invites their anger and curse. Making it available brings blessing to your own head.
He that diligently seeketh good procureth favour: but he that seeketh mischief, it shall come unto him.
Spiritual Insight
Earnestly seeking to do good opens doors of favor you never expected. But plotting harm ensures that harm will find its way back to you.
He that trusteth in his riches shall fall; but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.
Spiritual Insight
Trusting in wealth is like building a house on sand—it will collapse. The righteous, rooted in God, flourish like a living branch.
He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool shall be servant to the wise of heart.
Spiritual Insight
Bringing trouble to your own family leaves you with nothing but empty air. And the foolish end up serving those who are wiser than them.
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.
Spiritual Insight
The life of a righteous person is like a tree that nourishes everyone around it. And winning souls—guiding people toward truth—is the highest wisdom.
Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: much more the wicked and the sinner.
Spiritual Insight
If even the righteous face consequences in this life, how much more will the wicked and sinful? God's justice is thorough and fair.
